2018
Red Blend
SRP: $75
Comprised of 85% single vineyard, Spring Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Napa Valley Cabernet Franc, this wine combines the complexity of Spring Mountain Terroir with valley floor fruit to soften the edges, allowing for a delightfully drinkable wine, even in its young age.
This proprietary blend has a vibrant, inky red, violet color with favors of dark currant, volcanic minerality, tobacco, cola, and mushroom. The wine comes on powerful, a hallmark of the warmer climate, lower vine vigor and smaller concentrated berries of Spring Mountain but finishes nicely with playful acidity lending notes of cherry and raspberry. The tannins are complex, but round out nicely with the Cabernet Franc and oak. The wine was aged in 85% new French oak and sat for 26 months, longer than most blends, but provides for a nice balance and tames potentially angular tannins.
2018 is widely known as being a banner vintage in Napa. The warm start to the growing season jumpstarted budding on Spring Mountain and the valley floor. A cooler fall led our winemaker to delay picking by 2-weeks, allowing for ample ripening while maintaining the fruits natural acidity. This wine drinks very nicely now and will only improve over the next 10-15 years.
